Let's go fishing...

...at Fisherman's Wharf!

One of the staples of San Francisco tourism is Fisherman's Wharf.  Back in the day - it started as a tight neighborhood of Italian fisherman, and the city has since grown around it.  In the 70s and 80s, it began developing into a tourist destination, but even today there are still many local fishing boats the call the area home.

The first day that we were at the wharf, it was super busy....people everywhere!  You almost had to hold on to each other to avoid getting lost.  But don't let that scare you away . . . Fisherman's Wharf is a must!

Let's see...what tip number am I on?  I'm gonna take a guess.

TIP # 8: Tip the "Silver Man" and "Gold Man" - they really are good at their job.  This silver guy was a pretty good dancer.  And the fireman really looked like a statue when he stood still.

Fisherman's Wharf boasts lots of restaurants, both local & chains such as Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and In-N-Out, as well as gift shops and specialty stores.

TIP #9: It is legal to drink alcohol in public, so grab a cold one while strolling the shops!  When Robbie said it was okay to drink on the streets there, I thought he meant it was legal.  WRONG!  Like most places, it is not legal to drink on the street in San Fran.  However, provided you are under control and not being disorderly, that particular law is not strongly enforced usually.  If I had known that at the time, I probably would have said no thanks.  That being said,  a cold beer while walking around the pier was quite refreshing!  Just be discreet *I'm sure I was NOT*

Besides the "statues", there are also many street musicians and artists around this area.

TIP #10: Make sure you go all the way to the end of the pier.  This candy shop is AMAZING, and there is a really great lookout at the end - a great backdrop for photos!

Oh yes - and don't forget the doughnut magnets!!

I think I miss San Fran already!  Or maybe I just miss vacation...probably a little of both!
